This ship happened to become a witness and participant of many controversial events of the intricate history of XX century. The cruiser took part in three wars, became an active participant of the revolutionary events of February-October 1917 and was a “smithy” in training of several generations of naval officers. This famous ship has seen many great people.
Having joined the fleet of warships of the Russian Imperial Navy in 1903, the cruiser honourably carried the flag of St. Andrew and subsequently – the Naval flag of the USSR – across many seas and oceans of the world.
The cruiser Aurora is a participant of the 2nd Pacific Squadron march to the Far East, unprecedented in the world history, a witness of the Battle of Tsushima on May 14-15, 1905, tragic for the Russian Navy, a member of the First World War in the Baltic Sea and a defender of Leningrad in the years of the Great Patriotic War.
The ship, after healing the war wounds, was placed for eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment in 1948, opposite Leningrad Nakhimov Naval School instituted four years earlier. The Aurora became a training base for the college cadets. The future naval officers received basic maritime skills there. In 1950, a ship museum was set up on the cruiser. On July 5, 1956, in accordance with a directive of the Commander-In-Chief of the Navy, a branch of the Central Naval Museum was set up on the Aurora. The first head of the branch was an honoured naval officer, Captain 2nd Rank, B.V. Burkovsky who supervised the work of the museum for more than twenty years.
The cruiser Aurora was included in the list of monuments protected by the state by a resolution of RSFSR Council of Ministers as of August 30, 1960.
In the years 1984-1987, the cruiser Aurora underwent major repairs and restoration at Leningrad Shipyard named after A.A. Zhdanov (now Severnaya Verf Shipyard, JSC). The ship became a host of exposition dedicated to the revolutionary and militant past of the legendary cruiser, placed in six halls. The museum became one of the most popular places of Leningrad visited by the residents and guests of the city, including numerous foreign delegations and foreign tourists. To date, the Aurora and the museum exhibition halls have been visited by about thirty million people from almost all countries of the world. The guestbook commenced as early as 1924 contains comments of the national and foreign public and political leaders, astronauts, prominent figures of science, culture, art, representatives of the public.
The inclusion of Cruiser Aurora in the Golden Book of St. Petersburg as a historical monument of the maritime capital of Russia and the Navy was a sign of well-deserved appreciation of the legendary ship. The cruiser Aurora is included in the International Association of Museum Ships.
In 2016, the Aurora found a new life after a nearly two-year overhaul at Kronstadt Shipyard.
The cruiser Aurora today is a waterborne ship with the operating systems and mechanisms securing its service life for 20 days in the stand-alone mode. In fact, after becoming a ship-museum, it has retained a number of features of the operable warship. The ship has a military crew headed by the commander who provides for due operation of the cruiser and its proper technical condition.
Today, after the repairs and the recreation of the exposition, the cruiser Aurora, is, as before, one of the most visited museums of St. Petersburg – the city where this great ship was built and where the most of its service for the benefit of the Motherland took place.
The country’s leadership has made a huge contribution in the organization and implementation of repair work on the cruiser Aurora. On the Navy Day – July 31, 2016 – the cruiser Aurora that had returned to the place of eternal mooring after the overhaul was visited by Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation President V.V. Putin and the Russian Defence Minister S.K. Shoigu.

November 2, 1927 – the cruiser Aurora was awarded the Order of the Red Banner by Decree of USSR Central Executive Committee.
1944-1948 – the ship underwent renovation and re-equipment as a training base of Leningrad Nakhimov Naval School.
November 17, 1948 – the cruiser Aurora was placed for eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment in Leningrad as a monument to active participation of the Baltic Fleet seamen in the overthrow of the Provisional Government.
Up to 1956, she ship was used as a training base of Leningrad Nakhimov Naval School.
In 1956, a ship museum was opened on the cruiser Aurora as a branch of the Central Naval Museum.
The cruiser Aurora was placed under state protection as a monument of history and revolution by the resolution No. 1327 of RSFSR Council of Ministers as of August 30, 1960.
In 1961, the cruiser Aurora was transferred to Leningrad naval base due to reorganization of Nakhimov Naval School.
The cruiser Aurora was awarded the Order of October Revolution by decree of the Presidium of USSR Supreme Council as of February 22, 1968.
August 18, 1984 – transferred for repairs to Leningrad Shipyard named after A.A. Zhdanov.
August 16, 1987 – took its place of eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment again.
December 1, 2010 – was assigned to Central Naval Museum as a historical monument.
May 2013 – recommissioned for the Navy.
June 4, 2013 – Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation approved a technical assignment for the overhaul of the cruiser Aurora. The objective is renovation of the technical condition of cruiser Aurora for its use as a museum ship.
September 21, 2014 – transferred to Kronstadt Shipyard for overhaul.
July 16, 2016 – returned to its place of eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment.
Excursion to the Peter and Paul Fortress
Peter and Paul Cathedral is justly regarded one of the main attractions of Peter and Paul Fortress. It was built in 1712–1733 as the main cathedral of St Petersburg, new capital of the Russian Empire. Designed in Baroque style by Dominico Trezzini, it combines typical features of West-European and Italian church architecture. It is rectangular in shape, with the dome on the eastern end and a belfry with a 402 feet high spire on the western entrance.
The interior decoration of the Cathedral is foreign for the Russian religious architecture tradition as well. Peter and Paul Cathedral is a hall church, with nave and side aisles of approximately equal height, united under a single immense roof. The space of the cathedral is divided in three parts by pillars, painted to imitate marble. The vaults of the cathedral are decorated with multicolored fresco paintings and gilded moldings. The cathedral is lit though twelve large windows. It became one of the first cathedrals in Russia, decorated with paintings, along with the icons. It was by no means the influence of the European tradition.
Artists will appreciate the wooden gilded Baroque iconostasis, designed by Ivan Zarudny and carved by Moscow craftsmen in the 1720s. The iconostasis contains 43 original icons of the eighteenth century. The central part of the iconostasis is designed in the form of the triumphal arch that spans the Royal Doors and rises into the space beneath the dome to a height of almost twenty meters. Near the iconostasis are a pulpit to the left, and the Tsar’s Place to the right, a special spot where the emperor stood when there was a service.
Peter and Paul Cathedral is the symbolic center of Russia because it is the burial place of many of the imperial family. For two hundred years all Russian rulers from Peter I to Nicolas II (except Peter II and Ivan VI) and their families were buried here. The locations of the graves are marked by sarcophagi made of white Carrara marble. The lids of the tombs are decorated with large bronze cross coated in pure gold, tombs of the rulers have four bronze emblems of the Russian Empire at four corners. Sarcophagi of Emperor Alexander II and his wife Maria Alexandrovna were replaced by those made of green Altai jasper and pink Urals rhodonite in 1906. The remains of the last Russian Emperor Nicolas II and members of his family, who were shot under the town of Ekaterinburg by local Bolsheviks on 17 July 1918, were buried in the Catherine’s Chapel of Peter and Paul Cathedral on 17 July 1998.
In 1908 Grand Ducal Burial Chapel, designed by David Grimm, Anton Tomishko and Leonty Benois, was added to the cathedral as a burial place for Grand Dukes and Duchesses. From 1908 to 1915 thirteen persons were interred there, eight burials were transferred from Peter and Paul Cathedral. In 1992 great-grandson of Alexander II Vladimir Kirillovich Romanov was buried in the Chapel, which opened a new page in the history of the burials in the Peter and Paul Fortress. In 1995 the remains of his parents were transferred here. On June 3, 2010 his wife Leonida Georgievna Romanova, nee Bagration-Mukhranskaya, was laid to rest here.

This ship happened to become a witness and participant of many controversial events of the intricate history of XX century. The cruiser took part in three wars, became an active participant of the revolutionary events of February-October 1917 and was a “smithy” in training of several generations of naval officers. This famous ship has seen many great people.
Having joined the fleet of warships of the Russian Imperial Navy in 1903, the cruiser honourably carried the flag of St. Andrew and subsequently – the Naval flag of the USSR – across many seas and oceans of the world.
The cruiser Aurora is a participant of the 2nd Pacific Squadron march to the Far East, unprecedented in the world history, a witness of the Battle of Tsushima on May 14-15, 1905, tragic for the Russian Navy, a member of the First World War in the Baltic Sea and a defender of Leningrad in the years of the Great Patriotic War.
The ship, after healing the war wounds, was placed for eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment in 1948, opposite Leningrad Nakhimov Naval School instituted four years earlier. The Aurora became a training base for the college cadets. The future naval officers received basic maritime skills there. In 1950, a ship museum was set up on the cruiser. On July 5, 1956, in accordance with a directive of the Commander-In-Chief of the Navy, a branch of the Central Naval Museum was set up on the Aurora. The first head of the branch was an honoured naval officer, Captain 2nd Rank, B.V. Burkovsky who supervised the work of the museum for more than twenty years.
The cruiser Aurora was included in the list of monuments protected by the state by a resolution of RSFSR Council of Ministers as of August 30, 1960.
In the years 1984-1987, the cruiser Aurora underwent major repairs and restoration at Leningrad Shipyard named after A.A. Zhdanov (now Severnaya Verf Shipyard, JSC). The ship became a host of exposition dedicated to the revolutionary and militant past of the legendary cruiser, placed in six halls. The museum became one of the most popular places of Leningrad visited by the residents and guests of the city, including numerous foreign delegations and foreign tourists. To date, the Aurora and the museum exhibition halls have been visited by about thirty million people from almost all countries of the world. The guestbook commenced as early as 1924 contains comments of the national and foreign public and political leaders, astronauts, prominent figures of science, culture, art, representatives of the public.
The inclusion of Cruiser Aurora in the Golden Book of St. Petersburg as a historical monument of the maritime capital of Russia and the Navy was a sign of well-deserved appreciation of the legendary ship. The cruiser Aurora is included in the International Association of Museum Ships.
In 2016, the Aurora found a new life after a nearly two-year overhaul at Kronstadt Shipyard.
The cruiser Aurora today is a waterborne ship with the operating systems and mechanisms securing its service life for 20 days in the stand-alone mode. In fact, after becoming a ship-museum, it has retained a number of features of the operable warship. The ship has a military crew headed by the commander who provides for due operation of the cruiser and its proper technical condition.
Today, after the repairs and the recreation of the exposition, the cruiser Aurora, is, as before, one of the most visited museums of St. Petersburg – the city where this great ship was built and where the most of its service for the benefit of the Motherland took place.
The country’s leadership has made a huge contribution in the organization and implementation of repair work on the cruiser Aurora. On the Navy Day – July 31, 2016 – the cruiser Aurora that had returned to the place of eternal mooring after the overhaul was visited by Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation President V.V. September 21, 2014 – transferred to Kronstadt Shipyard for overhaul.
July 16, 2016 – returned to its place of eternal moorage at Petrogradskaya embankment.
Excursion to the Peter and Paul Fortress
Peter and Paul Cathedral is justly regarded one of the main attractions of Peter and Paul Fortress. It was built in 1712–1733 as the main cathedral of St Petersburg, new capital of the Russian Empire. Designed in Baroque style by Dominico Trezzini, it combines typical features of West-European and Italian church architecture. It is rectangular in shape, with the dome on the eastern end and a belfry with a 402 feet high spire on the western entrance.
The interior decoration of the Cathedral is foreign for the Russian religious architecture tradition as well. Peter and Paul Cathedral is a hall church, with nave and side aisles of approximately equal height, united under a single immense roof. The space of the cathedral is divided in three parts by pillars, painted to imitate marble. The vaults of the cathedral are decorated with multicolored fresco paintings and gilded moldings. The cathedral is lit though twelve large windows. It became one of the first cathedrals in Russia, decorated with paintings, along with the icons. It was by no means the influence of the European tradition.
Artists will appreciate the wooden gilded Baroque iconostasis, designed by Ivan Zarudny and carved by Moscow craftsmen in the 1720s. The iconostasis contains 43 original icons of the eighteenth century. The central part of the iconostasis is designed in the form of the triumphal arch that spans the Royal Doors and rises into the space beneath the dome to a height of almost twenty meters. Near the iconostasis are a pulpit to the left, and the Tsar’s Place to the right, a special spot where the emperor stood when there was a service.
Peter and Paul Cathedral is the symbolic center of Russia because it is the burial place of many of the imperial family. For two hundred years all Russian rulers from Peter I to Nicolas II (except Peter II and Ivan VI) and their families were buried here. The locations of the graves are marked by sarcophagi made of white Carrara marble. The lids of the tombs are decorated with large bronze cross coated in pure gold, tombs of the rulers have four bronze emblems of the Russian Empire at four corners. Sarcophagi of Emperor Alexander II and his wife Maria Alexandrovna were replaced by those made of green Altai jasper and pink Urals rhodonite in 1906. The remains of the last Russian Emperor Nicolas II and members of his family, who were shot under the town of Ekaterinburg by local Bolsheviks on 17 July 1918, were buried in the Catherine’s Chapel of Peter and Paul Cathedral on 17 July 1998.
In 1908 Grand Ducal Burial Chapel, designed by David Grimm, Anton Tomishko and Leonty Benois, was added to the cathedral as a burial place for Grand Dukes and Duchesses. From 1908 to 1915 thirteen persons were interred there, eight burials were transferred from Peter and Paul Cathedral. In 1992 great-grandson of Alexander II Vladimir Kirillovich Romanov was buried in the Chapel, which opened a new page in the history of the burials in the Peter and Paul Fortress. In 1995 the remains of his parents were transferred here. On June 3, 2010 his wife Leonida Georgievna Romanova, nee Bagration-Mukhranskaya, was laid to rest here.

- Автобусная экскурсия по Военно-Грузинской дороге. Сначала мы видим неповторимо красивое Жинвальское водохранилище. Затем мы посетим старейшую крепость Ананури, где находятся храмы 16 и 17 века. Затем мы посетим знаменитый горнолыжный курорт – Гудаури. Он расположен на склонах Большого Кавказского хребта. Наша следующая точка – село Степанцминда, где подъем на гору Гергети к Гергетской Троицкой церкви (14 век). Вы увидите вершину горы Казбеги (5047 м), которая является второй по высоте в Грузии.

- Автобусная экскурсия в Кутаиси, старейший город Колхети. Монастырь Гелати – важнейший культурный и духовный центр 12 века. Его основал Давид Агмашенебели. Собор Баграти был основан в 1003 году. Пещера Прометея известна как Кумистави. Они находятся в живописном месте, через которое проходят небольшие реки; образуются сталактиты и сталагмиты. Вот след динозавра!

- Автобусная экскурсия к высеченному в скале монастырскому комплексу 6 века. Комплекс был основан Давидом (Святой Давид Гареджели), одним из ассирийских монахов. Он расположен на границе между Грузией и Азербайджаном. В нем около 20 высеченных в скале монастырей, главный из которых Лавр Святого Давида. Вы можете увидеть хорошо сохранившиеся фрески и надписи на грузинском, армянском, арабском и греческом языках.

- Винный тур на автобусе. Кахетия – это виноградники и вино! Сигнахи известен как «Город любви». У него красивая архитектура. Основан в семнадцатом веке царем Ираклием II. Это единственный город в Грузии, окруженный сохранившейся (или восстановленной) оборонительной городской стеной. Здесь 28 матадоров с потрясающим панорамным видом на Алазанскую долину. Бодбийский монастырь. Женский монастырь, где находится место захоронения святой равноапостольной Нино, просветительницы Грузии. В нескольких километрах от монастыря находится источник Святой Нино. Достопримечательность – мироточивая чудотворная Грузинская икона Божией Матери.

- Пешеходная экскурсия по Тбилиси. Город имеет богатую историю, культуру и архитектуру. Мы начнем с площади Свободы, затем посетим собор Самеба, поднимемся по канатной дороге к крепости Нарикала, откуда открывается потрясающий панорамный вид на город. Потом спустимся к серным котлам, где любили бывать Пушкин и Дюма. Мы будем в самом сердце старого города: узкие улочки, винные погреба, итальянские дворики, галереи и магазины с духом старого города. Они ведут к собору Сиони, базилике Анчисхати (VI век) и уникальной часовой башне — театру Резо Габриадзе. Мы посетим знаменитый остаточный рынок и новый проспект Агмашенебели.

- Автобусный тур в Мцхету, первую столицу Грузии, которая сейчас является культурным и духовным центром страны. Мы посетим собор Светицховели (XI век), где находится место захоронения мантии Христа. Собор Светицховели является усыпальницей династии Багратионов и патриархов. Мы посетим монастырь Джвари, который стоит на скалистой вершине горы у слияния рек Мтквари и Арагви. Гори – старейший город на Шелковом пути. Уплисцихе – самый древний пещерный город. Он был построен в конце 2-го, в начале 1-го тысячелетия до нашей эры. Это важнейший культурный и архитектурный памятник Грузии.

«Семь сестер», или « сталинские высотки », являются одними из лучших образцов сталинской архитектуры в Москве, термин, данный советской архитектуре под руководством Иосифа Сталина, Генерального секретаря Коммунистической партии. Построенные в период с середины 1940-х по начало 1950-х годов, эти высотки стали символом новой Москвы, которая воспринималась как город-победитель, преодолевший тяготы войны и вступивший в новую мирную эпоху. Эти гигантские сооружения стали атрибутами современного мегаполиса. В «Семь сестер» входят главный корпус МГУ имени М.В. Ломоносова , Министерство иностранных дел , гостиницы «Украина» и «Ленинградская» , доходные дома на Котельнической набережной .Кудринской площади и административно-жилого комплекса у площади Красных ворот .
К сожалению, не в каждую высотку легко попасть. В частности, это относится к зданию МГУ и МИДа, но один только их внешний вид достоин внимания. Даже сегодня, когда небоскребы являются обычным явлением, Семь сестер по-прежнему уникальны своим величием, богатством декора и монументальной высотой.
